Get to know Darren...

You Never Know Where Life Will Take You, Until You Chose To Live It!

Like many of you, I am a hard working, adventurous and loving individual, as well as a husband, father, professional and neighbor.

My uniqueness stems from my life long curiosity about the human experience, the origins of life and why we are all here.  At a very early age, I found myself deeply inquisitive regarding these existential questions.  While they used to keep me awake at night, they eventually became my passion and eventually my vocation.  My engineering mindset has given me a systematic approach to researching and understanding the systems that influence our experience and how they relate to one another.

My journey through life seems no different than any other’s; however, it has provided me with many unique challenges and hardships which have pushed me to dive deep into researching answers to those questions that once kept me awake at night.

My journey started in the rural Midwest, where I experienced first hand the challenges of economically struggling communities. While I may have picked up some bad habits, I also learned  self-reliance, and the value of working together.

At the advice of high school guidance counselors, I studied engineering at a university outside Chicago, IL.  At the time I did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I had a passion for learning how things work and trying to increase their potential.

Post-academia, I moved to New Jersey where I felt the culture shock of highly populated, urban living. I spent just over a decade working as a systems engineer for the Department of the Navy which involved many months at sea with plenty of time to research.  After the Navy, I did a six year stint as a leader in product development and R&D.

This is the point where I felt the call to sunset my “traditional corporate career” and pursue a vocation aimed at  helping others…

From the onset of college through my entire 20 year traditional career, I always felt like there should be more to life.  My degree felt like an entrance fee onto a hamster wheel of work, eat, sleep, repeat.  The grand prize to this carnival game was the ability to afford a bunch of material goods and social experiences that provided a quick hit of excitement, but eventually left me feeling empty.  My heart constantly sang out… “is this it?”

Like many men, I have experienced the abyss of anxiety and depression, the challenges of addiction,  and the despair of loss.  I have also made it through the other side. Slowly and intentionally, I built a life that I am excited to welcome each morning. My experiences have gifted me the ability to truly empathize with men who find themselves in similar places, and share portions of my experience as I help to guide them through their own journey.

I can vividly remember the day I finally “woke up.”  Sitting alone, medicated, riddled with addiction and dysfunction, I finally forced myself to answer the question… “is this really it?  Is this all there is to life?”  My response was explosively “No, this is not how it ends for me.  I will go to the edges of the earth to turn this around.”

This moment kicked off a 10 year long journey of research and exploration into fields of psychology, behavioral science, philosophy, physiology and physics.  I have worked with traditional physicians of both western and eastern medicine, holistic health practitioners, religious leaders, personal coaches and shaman.

While I continue the exploration into myself, I feel called to walk with men who find themselves in that initial dark place I experienced in my early 30’s. To listen to their story, uncover their heart's true desires, overcome their fears and take meaningful action toward realizing their vision.

Every man deserves to be proud of the life they have created!
